Indigenous Sounds: Music from the Caribbean

Flautist Gemma Stemley will play music from the Caribbean region which includes Calypso, Reggae and Soca. We will discuss the differences in the rhythmical sounds of the music of Harry Belafonte, who was credited with popularizing calypso in the US. Gemma will also describe the history of the steel pan and Native American flute.
