About This Program
An educator from the Senator John Heinz History Center will present a lesson from their “Beyond Adversity” theme, which highlights the history and contributions of African Americans to Western Pennsylvania.
This talk will focus on two extraordinary 19th century lives – Charles Garlick and Martin Delany. Both men experienced adversity yet took the initiative to seek better lives for themselves as well as fighting for the liberty of others.
